Libraries to Offer Help During Wikipedia Blackout

Marketing and Communications | January 17, 2012

Wikipedia and other high profile sites such as Reddit are going dark (offline) for 24 hours, starting at 12:00 a.m. Eastern on January 18, 2012.  The Texas A&M University Libraries will help library users during the blackout.

The blackout comes in response to proposed legislation, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate.

The Libraries has prepared a guide to help users find alternate resources, understand the major issues surrounding SOPA and PIPA, and learn about supporters and opponents of the legislation. For more information contact Lea Engle, learning and outreach librarian, or Laura Sare, government information librarian.
