Divya Talwar Wins READ Poster Contest

The Texas A&M University Libraries is pleased to announce that Divya Talwar, a graduate student in health and policy management, is the winner of the Libraries’ recent READ Poster contest. Talwar won after receiving more than 500 votes from a pool of 54 student photos.
The contest offered students a unique opportunity to star in the READ poster campaign, which in the past has featured Texas A&M icons, like the NCAA championship women’s basketball team, Reveille, the Yell Leaders, and President Bowen Loftin.
Students who wished to participate were photographed in Evans Library and West Campus Library April 6-8 by a professional photographer. Participants were encouraged to pose with their favorite books and any relevant props or costumes to share their enthusiasm for reading. Family, friends and peers could then vote on the Libraries’ Facebook page, which garnered more than 2,000 votes.
“I’m very excited about winning the competition and being counted among the other campus stars,” Talwar said. “Featuring students in the posters is a unique concept, and I’m glad to be part of it. I appreciate the support of my friends and look forward to the poster release.”
Talwar’s family eagerly supported her contest entry with their votes.
“I’m thrilled for my sister to be part of this creative library campaign,” Varun Talwar added upon receiving the news.
Talwar’s photo, featuring the book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” will be printed in mass quantities and available for free at all campus libraries in the coming weeks.
“We borrowed this idea from the American Library Association (ALA), which does celebrity posters each year,” Robin Bedenbaugh, Libraries coordinator for Marketing and Communication said. “We’re delighted that Divya Talwar will be our next READ Poster star.”
