Cushing Library to Exhibit Holman Collection of Printing Art in Texas
Marketing and Communications | November 02, 2010
An exhibit featuring the award-winning books of printing artists William and Barbara Holman will open at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, as Cushing Memorial Library and Archives at Texas A&M University presents “Printing Art in Texas: the William and Barbara Holman Collection of Design and Fine Printing.”
The exhibition highlights 60 years of collaboration between the husband and wife team who became renowned for the subtlety and sophistication of their book production, which often featured Barbara’s illustrations and William’s design and letterpress printing. Drawing from the extensive Holman archive at Cushing Library, the exhibit examines the lives and accomplishments of the two artists through their books, broadsides, proofs, printing blocks and correspondence.
The Holman collection was acquired with the support of the Friends of the Sterling C. Evans Library. Friends Board member Patsy Nichols and her husband Bruce provided the lead gift in honor of Al and Darlyne Lowman, collectors of Texas fine printing.
The opening reception and exhibit are open to the public. Contact Todd Samuelson at 979-845-1951 for more about the exhibit.
