Cushing Library to Host Archivists’ Workshop on Preserving Photographs

Archivists nationwide will learn about managing and preserving photographs at Texas A&M University’s Cushing Memorial Library and Archives Oct. 25 and 26, 2010. Sponsored by the Society of American Archivists (SAA), the workshop, “Understanding Photographs: An Introduction to Archival Principles and Practices” will offer basic training on some of the most versatile and heavily used resources.

Instructors Marcy Flynn, Silver Image Management, co-chair of SAA’s Standards Committee and Laura Downey Staneff, Silverpoint Art Conservation LLC, will cover eight modules in the two-day workshop. Participants will receive training in the following areas: appraising and acquiring; reading and researching; identification and handling; preservation, storage and housing; accessioning and arrangement; description and cataloging; copying; and public service and outreach.
