GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

In a user-centered library leadership team, and under the general direction of the Dean, serves as a member of the senior library administration in creating and communicating a vision, setting priorities, and developing strategies.  The position provides vision and leadership that is innovative, transformative, forward-thinking, and innately collaborative within the context of the evolving role of research libraries in the digital age. Provides administrative oversight and leadership to the units of Document Delivery, Cataloging, Collection Development and Acquisitions Services, Shelving, Preservation, and Scholarly Communication. Participates as a member of the Dean’s Cabinet in library planning, development, and innovation.

The position provides leadership and is a catalyst for positive change in the development and integration of technical services functions to improve the intellectual and bibliographic organization of the library’s collections in all formats. Also serves a critical role in the development and growth of collections to ensure support of the curricular and research interests of the University.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Develop, communicate, and execute long and short range strategic planning goals.
  • Assess and improve library technical services including the effective application and use of new bibliographic standards and tools (such as RDA).
  • In the context of rapidly developing technologies, establish a vision for transforming traditional library technical services so that they are an integral component of digital resources and scholarly communication strategies. 
  • Ensure the development and continuing success of the Library’s Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan Services (GetItForMe).
  • Working with the Head of Collection Development and Acquisitions Services, ensure the effective management of a collections resources budget for outstanding collections in myriad formats, print and non-print. 
  • Provide leadership and direction in the establishment of a fledgling program of materials preservation leading to national stature and reputation incorporating traditional preservation approaches as well as digitization strategies. 
  • Participate in library-wide planning through the Dean’s Cabinet to establish fiscal, resource, and programmatic priorities for the libraries.
  • Represent TAMU Libraries in committees and working groups, internal and external, as required.
  • Pursue an active and ongoing program of professional development, research, and service
  • Support library and TAMU diversity initiatives.
  • Mentor/advise library faculty in career development and planning.
  • Communicate (oral/written) with internal customers, external customers, peers, direct reports, across functions, and within the function
  • Other duties as assigned
